Any thoughts on how schools views spouses appplying together?

If one spouse is stronger than the other, do you think they would look more kindly on the other spouse in the admissions process?

Also, how common do you think a husband and wife going to school together FT is?

Thanks!

Hi Alymarie -
I think it depends on the school.

But overall, I believe each of the two should be capable of getting in on his/her own (I mean, even the weakest profile should be comparable with the ones of other admits). In such a case, having the spouse who has been already accepted could be seen as additional favourable factor - which could help, for instance, to get a bordeline candidate in.

In general, I don't think that applying and studying together is something too rare. I heard of several ocassions and talked myself with one person who was doing the MBA together with her husband - so I believe it's OK. These were European schools, though, with more mature students than in the US Schools.

I have a friend who's planning on applying with her husband in for the Class of 2013. They were both at an admissions event for an elite business school this fall and they posed the question of whether it was good/bad/would have no effect if a married couple applied together. The representative told them that "Absolutely, if both candidates are strong, it can have a positive effect" but didn't elaborate beyond that. They both got the impression that if one of them was weak, it might hurt the other one or have no effect.
