I also feel a master's course will definitely be very useful before you embark on your Ph.D. journey, however, the Stanford MSx Program is not the right degree to pursue if your subsequent goal to pursue a DBA.
The Stanford MSx Program is a full-time, one-year master’s program in business for mid-career experienced professionals at Stanford Graduate School of Business. Professionals opt for this course keeping the following objectives in mind:-
1) Career Advancement Path: The career advancement path will position you to secure a more inspiring position or establish yourself as an expert in your industry.
If this is your goal, you might aim to:
- Deepen your knowledge of business fundamentals
- Enhance your strategic management skills
- Develop your interpersonal dynamics skills
2) The entrepreneurship path teaches you to scale your vision to market with precision and speed.
3) The career change path will prepare you to proactively enter a different job function or industry.
None of the aforesaid is relevant for doing a DBA or Ph.D.
Go for a research master's degree, which will have lots of Probability theory, statistics theory, linear algebra, econometrics, research-based courses, accounting seminars, improve your programming skills, work on SAS/STATA/LATEX/PYTHON etc. Why do you want to spend time learning OB, HR, marketing, leadership, strategy, and operations related courses when you are clear that you want to do a DBA.
I am not saying that learning The Stanford MSx Program is bad but it will not be as useful as research masters. My point is you can invest your time in a better way and make your application better. You can also think of becoming a research associate and simultaneously do research-based courses and help the professor who would give you a letter of recommendation. Think on all these lines rather than doing The Stanford MSx Program. According to me, The Stanford MSx Program will require you to spend lots of money as well, and return on your investment will be much lesser than research masters.
All the best!
