well..its new years eve and I'm working on essays...I should be drunk right now..=(

At anyrate...happy new years everyone!...now on to my question....

One of my biggest passions is playing guitar and songwriting. I perform acoustic sets w/ a friend of mine throughout town... I would love to start a music performance club... but is saying you will start a club in your essays overdone these days?..

I'm really serious about music and songwriting, and sharing my passion w/ the school community, but I do not want my words to sound contrived.. thanks!

If you sound passionate and explain your history in the area then its great to do. If you just throw it in with little or no explanation then it sounds contrived.

and make sure they don't already have a similar club, or you'll look like you don't do your homework.

a nice touch might be to organize open mic nights for all the students. Not only are you pursuing your passion, but you're really contributing to the community too.

I love that idea. Nicely done. But yes, this brings up a good point - make sure you've done your homework.

that's what we non-profit folks do well - contribute to the community. For $100 a pop, I will analyze your specific skill set and recommend creative ways you can contribute to your chosen MBA environment. (Just kidding.)

great idea..

I was thinking along the lines providing the framework for a musical showcase.. but I like your idea better...

Open mic's are very intimate.. great way to showcase songwriting abilities..
