I am finally done with my GMAT - got a 700 (Q:40 , V:35). Though this is just the first step, I always thought it was a major one. Before I start delving into my experience, I would like to sincerely thank everyone on this group for some great questions, excellent solutions and great support. Honestly, I don't think I would have been able to hit a 700 hundred without referring to 'the club' during work hours.
This was the *only* forum I could sucessfuly open at work, and refer in between intervals - get my daily 'gmat shot'. Great job folks!! Keep it going...
Summarizing the preparation:
* I followed Kaplan, OG and
Manhattan GMAT study material
* I was hitting between 660 - 680 on Kaplan tests and around 680 on M-Gmat.
* Due to the crazy work schedule (I travel every week for work) I was able to study for a total of 40 days (mostly weekends)
Some highlights from the day of the test:
* I reached an hour before the exam time, got my cup-o-java and flipped through an outdated copy of Forbes for the most part
* I had a great chat with a fellow G-matter.
* While I was writing my first essay - Analysis of an Argument - my machine shut off. The center personnel were able to restore the essay to the previous point, but I lost about 5 minutes in this process. (They made a note of it)
* Math - started with a moderate question and got hit with probability in the 5th question. I don't think I answered that right as the next one was relatively easy.
* Verbal - I got hit with a hard RC as soon as I finished the first two sentence correction questions. I think I spent a lot of time on that passage as I started to run out of time towards the end (had 14 questions unanswered and 10 minutes to go ) -- and much to my chagrin I got a RC and most of the CR questions at the end. I ended up guessing the last 5 questions.
I was expecting the worst when I hit 'Submit Test' and I thought I was hallucinating when I saw the '700'. Met up with my fello g-matter (she got a 710 btw) on my way out and both of us left the building, trying to convince each other that the score 'is' for real:).
Before I end this post, one piece of advice to all GMAT aspirant's - it's not impossible, and be very methodical when answering questions, even if you think you are getting easy questions.
