Hello,
I was bad at CR as well but i have improved, I believe. The thing that really helped me was knowing exactly what I am searching for, just not going into the options blind and hoping to come across a convincing answer.

For that I suggest understanding the basics and studying the structure of the argument such as premises and conclusion. Secondly, be sure about what does it mean to infer, assume, and so on.

You have to be confident about your understanding. Lastly, for strengthening and weakening, mostly, know your conclusion and what you are asked for. I suggest reading CR bible. I am sure you will see an improvement.

Hi everyone!

I hope you are doing great. I have really been struggling with CR. I have used so many resources to study for CR but I haven't been able to consistently get a good number of CR questions correct. I believe this might be the missing ingredient for me to ace the verbal section consistently.

Can anyone recommend a simple structured approach to solving EVERY CR question please? I have gone through a lot of resources as mentioned. Some give good strategies but they seem very very time consuming and I haven't had much success with them :? .

Please your help is much appreciated!

Hi,
If you have time for prep then take a week to read PowerScore CR bible. You can even skip a few chapters. Read the introductory classes and essential topics like strengthen, weaken, assumption, inference, causal reasoning etc.

2. Practice from OG 10th edition. It has easier questions, but a good number of them.
Go THOROUGHLY through the solutions. Read and understand not just why the correct answer is correct but also why the wrong answers are wrong. Invest a lot of time for this. Practice around 20-30 questions daily. Do not overdo it. Focus on understanding the concepts, not time. Give 3-4 minutes if required for each question.

3. Go for OG 18th or later editions. But this time, time yourself. I followed 3 sets of 10 questions each daily and time 20 minutes. Again THOROUGHLY, I stress, THOROUGHLY, go through the solutions.

This will be a long process of around 3 weeks but this will also help in your RC, trust me!
Edit: if you find that your accuracy is around 75-80%, go for the Advanced Questions book.

Reach out if you need more help.
All the best

Hi donu,

There are certainly a series of consistent 'steps' that you can work through when dealing with CR questions, but you have to recognize that various types of CR questions will ask you to perform different 'tasks' - meaning that you have to be ready to shift your Tactics based on what the question asks you for. It also helps to recognize the built-in patterns in certain CR questions (such as Causality or Representativeness); if you don't have that capacity yet, then that's an additional area that you'll need to work.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
