I am planning to start GMAT prep from now onwards that is August 2024 and give myself 6 months of time hence January would be the year I want to give exam; that is January 2025.

Is this enough and let me know all the plan and strategy I should follow.

I am only targeting Indian B schools and have work experience of 2 years.

Hi there! It’s great to hear that you’re planning to start your GMAT prep! Six months can be a sufficient amount of time to prepare for the GMAT, especially if you create a structured study plan and stay committed. Here’s a suggested plan and strategy to help you prepare effectively:

1. Understand the GMAT Format

  • Familiarize yourself with the structure of the GMAT Focus
  • Take a diagnostic test to assess your current level and identify your strengths and weaknesses.
2. Read Before You Start

  • Before diving into your studies, I recommend reading the GMAT Ninja blog and the TTP (Target Test Prep) blog. They offer valuable insights and strategies that can help you prepare effectively.
  • If you haven’t yet taken the TTP trial, I highly encourage you to do so. Make sure to read Chapter 20, which covers strategies, as it will provide you with a solid foundation before you start studying.
3. Create a Study Schedule

  • Months 1-2: Focus on building a strong foundation in both Quant and Verbal. Allocate time each week for practice questions and review.
  • Months 3-4: Begin taking full-length practice tests to build stamina and get used to the timing of the exam. Analyze your performance and focus on weak areas.
  • Months 5-6: Shift your focus to refining your strategies, practicing under timed conditions, and reviewing all sections thoroughly.
4. Study Resources

  • Books: Consider using GMAT prep books like the Official GMAT Guide, Manhattan Prep, or Kaplan.
  • Online Courses: If your budget allows, consider enrolling in an online course like TTP, eGMAT or Magoosh
  • Practice Tests: Take official GMAT practice tests available on the GMAT website to simulate the real exam experience.
5. Focus on Weak Areas

  • Identify the topics you struggle with the most (e.g., percent problems in Quant) and dedicate extra time to those areas.
  • Use resources like GMAT Club forums to ask questions and seek help from others who have successfully prepared for the exam.
6. Join a Study Group or Find a Study Partner

  • Connecting with others who are also preparing for the GMAT can provide motivation and accountability. You can share resources, discuss difficult concepts, and practice together.
7. Stay Consistent and Motivated

  • Set specific goals for each study session and track your progress.
  • Take breaks and ensure you maintain a healthy balance between studying and personal time to avoid burnout.
8. Prepare for the Application Process

  • Since you’re targeting Indian B-schools, research the specific requirements and deadlines for the programs you’re interested in.
  • Start working on your application materials, such as your resume, statement of purpose, and letters of recommendation, alongside your GMAT prep.
With dedication and a structured approach, you can achieve your target GMAT score in six months. Stay focused, practice regularly, and don’t hesitate to seek help when needed. Good luck with your preparation, and feel free to reach out if you have any more questions!
