Hey all,
I'm in the final phase of prep before my GMAT Focus Edition. Most of my time now goes into sectionals, full lengths, and error analysis.
Lately I've been practising heavily with GMAT Club's Quant sectionals, and I keep running into the same pattern: the test throws me into the 805+ difficulty realm after just 7–8 questions, starts medium, then sticks at 805+ for the rest of the test with only the occasional 705–805 question mixed in.
This creates two problems for me:
Questions for the community:
On Verbal and DI: these sections feel quite doable in comparison. RC passages can get lengthy at times, but IMO the section as a whole compensates for it well.
Would love to hear from people who've gone through this and how they interpreted their sectional scores heading into test day.

Lately I've been practising heavily with GMAT Club's Quant sectionals, and I keep running into the same pattern: the test throws me into the 805+ difficulty realm after just 7–8 questions, starts medium, then sticks at 805+ for the rest of the test with only the occasional 705–805 question mixed in.
This creates two problems for me:
- Time management — these questions eat up a huge amount of time, so I often end up guessing the last 3–4 questions in a "4 minutes, 4 questions left" scenario.
- Score ceiling — no matter how well I do, my Q score seems capped at 82. My last sectional had 18 hard and only 3 medium-level questions out of 21 total. In my opinion, a real FE Quant section would never have this kind of skew — but happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.
Questions for the community:
- Has anyone else given (or is currently giving) these GMAT Club sectionals and noticed this same difficulty distribution?
- How do you gauge actual readiness when the adaptive algorithm behaves like this?
- Is Q82 a "soft ceiling" tied to how the sectional's algorithm works, or is this a sign I need to fix something specific in my approach to hard questions?

I have heard that GMATClub Quant is a bit on the harder side. So, that's one thing you need to factor.

The Q82-84 is a magical point on the GMAT or sometimes just one or two questions may result into the score.
There’s a certain human element which may cause you to score higher or lower. But specifically this band between 82 and 84 is quite accurate based on my analysis.
Hopefully I am wrong and you score Q 90 but I wouldn’t count on just that alone.
In part, going over 90th percentile on any section, requires a huge discipline with careless mistakes, timing, and being able to give up when need to.
I would recommend checking questions that have eaten a lot of your time to see the solutions - a lot of times there may be multiple solutions some of which are much faster.
Another aspect to consider is that for some topics you may be better off doing a quiz with a bunch of the same questions versus a test that has a mix so there is a certain weakness you’re seeing or sensing in the back of just do a number of questions in a row for that topic until you can get a pretty high accuracy. I would say hundred percent accuracy with exception of a careless mistake sometime in which you can address later
