Hi I'm targeting 750 plus. I'm doing pretty well on quant and I'm confident that I'll score at least 50 on quant. I'm comfortable with CR and SC, but not with RC. I have been doing 3-4 RCs daily for last 3-4 weeks. I completed OG 15 with just 70 % accuracy on RC with 40-50 % accuracy on tough RCs. I analysed all questions on each passage. There is no pattern of wrong questions. I get wrong questions in every category. The problem is mainly with reading. I somehow cannot comprehend passages well in given time. Although without any time restriction i understand the passage and get almost every question right. This RC for example jon-clark-s-study-of-the-effect-of-the-modernization-of-a-88689.html I got just 3 out of 8 questions right on this one after spending 16 minutes. I haven't read any strategy books on RC. I came up with my own strategies which I think aren't of much help. This is what i do: Read each paragraph. Actively paraphrase each paragraph in easier language or in my native language(Can't do this with tougher passages). Remember the main point of each paragraph. Get the main point of the passage. Know exactly where each point can be found. Attack the questions. I do not take physical notes as they do not help me at all and are in fact time consuming for me. I spend average 7 minutes on each small passage with 2.5 to 3 minutes for reading the passage and 4 minutes to answer 3 or 4 questions. I spend average 9 minutes on long passages with 3.5 to 4 minutes for reading the passage and rest for solving 4 or more questions.
These are some problems which i face:- 1) Sometimes I have to re read parts of the passage again to understand better. This consumes a lot of time. 2) With tougher passages, I cannot understand the language and hence cannot comprehend properly. This mostly happens when I face unorthodox language and tougher vocabulary. 3) I almost always choose wrong option from two close options. 4) I find it difficult to paraphrase longer paragraphs though i understand their main point. 5) I get stuck on some parts of the passage and re read them and somehow still not manage to comprehend them. This mostly happens when my brain is fried after hours of practice.
I have 20 days left until my exam. Considering that i cannot practically have 100% accuracy on SC and CR, I have to improve on RC to achieve my target score. I have around 40 official passages left which i do not want to exhaust with my not so helpful self-made strategies. How do I improve ? Waiting eagerly for your valuable insights.
