Hi there!

Was a bit of a mixed bag as expected. 700 with Q at 41 and V at 45. I'm SO tempted to just wing it on this score and apply. I've written about that here - profile-review-request-197903.html. What do you think?

Cheers.

Hi wordsmith15,

First off, a 700 is an outstanding score, regardless of the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores. As such, you shouldn't hold back on your applications - you should apply to any School that you want to. You have to remember that you need a strong OVERALL application though, especially when applying to competitive programs, so putting in the necessary time and effort into the other 'pieces' will be necessary.

What Schools are you considering?
When are you planning to apply?

Thank you Rich! I agree with you on the need for the overall application to be strong. I'm hoping to use my 4.5 years of experience in social entrepreneurship in South Asia and East Africa to build a good story.

I'm planning to apply in R1 this year (2015). Wishlist of schools -

1) Stanford GSB
2) Berkeley Haas
3) MIT Sloan/Wharton
4) London Business School/INSEAD
5) Yale/Booth

Hi wordsmith15,

Your list contains some of the most competitive Schools in the world. With that level of competition, you really need to make sure that you're crafting your applications in the most effective way possible, so you might find it beneficial to work with an Admissions Consultant. There's a Forum full of them here:

Indeed, as Rich said, your list contains some of the best b-schools in the world. Considering that you have your eyes set on the best, I actually believe that you must consider appearing in GMAT again.

Frankly, 700 that you already have, is a great score, but considering the short list of b-schools that you have made, your current score might fall slightly short ideal, due to two main reasons:
- These b-schools are extremely competitive and so a significantly higher score than your current score will boost your chances.
- More importantly, what is a matter of concern is your Quant score. Many b-schools actually look at a very balanced score or at least a reasonably good score in Quant because this score is specifically reflective of your quantitative abilities and analytical aptitude.

I suspect that the b-schools of high caliber that you have chosen, might definitely look at the Quant score quite critically. Since you obviously have your Quant score on the lower side, you will be better off scoring more in Quant.

Lastly, since you do have time at your hand before the application season kickstarts, I think it might not be a bad idea to reappear.
