Whether is incorrect since the statement includes - "without having to move around one other". So the study was trying to find "how"

A has is wrong B whether is wrong as we are not looking for any confirmation. We are sure that they interact without having to move C has is wrong E same as B
here we should choose interesting results over results of interest. only A, C and D have that. A and C are wrong. So D is correct . we don't have to consider whether or how.

IMO, how/whether is not the "only" issue, but one of them. geturdream (Has/Have) and TehJay (wrong idiom/redundancy) pointed out other problems. Usually the incorrect options have multiple errors.
