Compare to - Different categories

Here its compare with

We need those to refer back to insects

The main error (well, at least an important error) in the incorrect answer options is the faulty parallelism in the "either-or" construction.

In A and E, you need "or finding". In B and D, you need "or reported finding".

The only answer that maintains proper ‘either X … or Y’ X || Y parallelism is C - ‘either a similar or a greater’. All the other options are clearly not parallel.

C: Correct
