You can use the non-focus study plan.

Or if you want to have it updated and all done, you can buy the Manhattan books or pay for a course.

Hey guys! How do we best practice for Data Insights (I am fine with DS) such as MSR and Two-part using GMAC Official Questions? I feel like I could practice these questions untimed but then it may create a habit of "practice under no pressure", which may be bad for me once I am a real test scenario. What did you guys do? Any tip is appreciated. Similar question to Reading Comprehension practice questions, do we just choose ALL questions under reading comprehension and then practice? For RC and MSR, I think it is hard to just pick one question to practice since one RC passage or MSR has more than questions in real tests. Thanks!
I would say you definitely want to practice and measure your time. Maybe at the beginning you don’t enforce strict time standards but you should be trying to solve things knowing that the timer is running somewhere and responding to an email in the middle of your data insights or reading comprehension question is not a good idea.

Data Insights is generally easy if there’s no time pressure. There are absolutely hard probability and other questions but I’m talking about generally table and graph and similar questions.

There are very few data insights questions, so treasure them and make sure you keep good track of your mistakes. Do you want to never repeat the same mistake again basically.

Got ya. If you already have them Manhattan books, that’s all really you need plus the official guide.

Do you want to aim to go through all of the Manhattan books in about 2 1/2 months. Maybe three.

Divide and build a little calendar with which topics you want to cover which days. Everyone finds their pace to be a little different.

Your pace will be determined by how rusty you are and how much improvement you need. You may be blazing through critical reasoning or your blazing through the math component. But ultimately those books are designed to be used in 10 weeks or 12 weeks.

as you go through the books, make sure you are constantly thinking how to improve your performance and how to improve retention of the material so you don’t just cover the book as you read it before bed and you fall asleep and you forget everything but I think about best ways toremember and the material. Take little 5 to 10 question quizzes daily after each chapter and each section you have covered.

if you’re not doing well in a section, don’t just move on hoping that it will improve automatically but keep digging in and figuring out why I did not work. You don’t want to have a bunch of of these gaps when you’re done studying. It’s better to deal with each gap right away unless it becomes really stubborn and then you can leave that one for later but in general, leave no gaps behind .

there’s not much of material or strategies for data insights at this time. We have a YouTube series of five videos and that seems to be the most capable resource of this time

Should I stagger each section ( Quant Verbal Data) on a daily basis or should I do quant first and then after a few weeks do verbal and then after a few weeks DI

If my exam is on December 2nd, should I be doing the OG mock tests every two weeks? Since there are 6 I believe

It’s totally up to you. Jim and Ninja recommends his students to do both simultaneously but that did not work for me and I prefer to just do one thing at a time and really go deep. Trying to track verbal and quant at the same time was overwhelming for me. But it’s really just how your mind best covers material. You may be able to cover more if you do both at the same time but that was a non-starter for me

You don’t need to take tests to test your knowledge of material that you haven’t covered yet. The results will be inconclusive for example if you haven’t studied critical reasoning and you take a test with critical reasoning. What’s the point of testing things you don’t know anyway.... So I would recommend doing full or even sectional test practice further down the road, maybe as you getting close to finishing a section.

You should however take a diagnostic test to understand where you stand

How about the utilization of OG and Manhattan, how do I effectively use them. For example, If I want to go over quant today and have 3 hours, would I do 1.5 hour of OG and 1.5 hour of manhattan?

The official guide only has questions So there’s nothing you’re learning from it besides doing practice. Your only learning source should be the Manhattan books. You don’t not need anything else.

I think you should do more learning than question solving because each question takes a couple minutes to solve plus a few minutes to review so it’s 4 minutes per question.

I think Manhattan had they document somewhere in the atlas spreadsheet that specified official guide questions by topic. They used to assign certain questions after each chapter but they stopped doing that along time ago.

Hello,

I am studying for the GMAT focus but I have GMAT 2023-2024 OG and manhattan all verbal and all quant.

Please let me know what is NOT on the focus edition that was on the old GMAT so I can skip on those sections/chapters when studying.

Also is there something new besides Data insights that is on the focus edition and cant be found on the previous study guides?

Thank you

Skip SC and Geometry. That’s it. Study everything else.

There is nothing new really except Verbal DS. That’s a bit of a new animal that you can only find online version of the official guide. For some reason it’s not in the paper version 🤷‍♂️

Oh. You are really just starting out! Data Sufficiency.

If it is about grammar, and anything that has underlines you can skip it. If it’s not about grammar, don’t skip it.

You can skip Unit 1 is everything is about grammar.
