No unfortunately I missed out. The deadline to register was a month or so ago, and at that time I was pretty convinced I wasn't going to go to Stern. By the time I made my decision I was kicking myself for not signing up.

How was it?

People say the schoolwork is tougher than you'd think, but honestly, i'm not worried at all. I did well in my acctg, stats, econ, finance classes undergrad just because I actually found most of the material interesting.

The great thing about any grad school situation is that the students approach the coursework with a different level of maturity. In undergrad, I know that most students view the curriculum as an extension of high school and bring the same level of dedication... I know that I did. I got by relatively easy in high school and was able to get high marks. Now I'm kicking myself for approaching college in the same way...

The university system is doing increasingly more to promote this attitude IMO... the notion that every high school student deserves a college education has led to a watering down of the curriculum. If undergrad were more like professional schools, you'd see ultimately less students applying; but at least it will be the ones that want really want it.

There is a Stern preview 2 coming up in June (I think the way loads of people got offers mid-april screwed it).

Will I attend? Dunno.

I don't worry about being taught accountancy, other than FAS and IAS aren't always compatible (and it is dull). And I am solid at statistics, but it similarly is very dull.

In fact, the whole first semester looks a bit dry most likely. I am interested that "specialisations" are so cheap on credits.

After speaking to several friends about this (and one of them was my college buddy, so I know what he means when he says "study hard"), the whole school studying issue is as follows:

1) Lots of time management issues: clubs + studying + lectures + recruiting + sleeping + eating + etc. >>>> 24 hr/day

2) It's not actually tough in the sense of "I can't understand what this guy's saying or I can't actually follow the reasoning".

So, get a Palm / Blackberry / other, get used to scheduling things, raise your productivity (or sleep less) and voila! there goes an MBA degree.
