Yes, that's a good summary - just on this point:

brandonh

Guess after 1 minute if I am stuck on a question.

Don't do that while you're practicing, of course. Only do that during a test, when saving time for later questions is important. And if you see a path to a solution within a minute, it will generally be worth getting an answer, even when that might take more than two minutes. A few experts here had a discussion a while ago about how much time investment a correct answer is worth on a test, and I think we agreed it was worth spending between 3 and 3.5 minutes if that meant you were certain to get a right answer, assuming a test taker was using optimal pacing strategy. What you don't want to do though is invest time beyond 1 minute if you don't even see that path to the solution. That's a sign that the question will take you a lot longer than 3 minutes to complete (and might take forever! - on some GMAT questions, if you don't know the right concept, there's really no way to get the answer), and you'll be better off saving your time for later in the test.

You're starting from a very strong base score, so I think if you just work on your conceptual foundation some more, you should be able to do extremely well. Good luck!

Awesome. Everything makes sense.

I'm 12 days from test day. Will be going through the Manhattan Strategy Guides, then the OG guides, and then some CATS.

Hoping to get this 1 month of prep will be enough and not have to reschedule!

Thanks!

Hi Brandon,

I'm hoping that you can answer a few questions about your timeline and goals:

1) What is your goal score?
2) Why are you trying to get all of your studying done in 1 month?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School?

Hi Rich,

I apologize, I haven't been able to respond quickly. I have been working through the MGMAT Strategy Guides.

1: 730+
2: I had a month between graduation and a big vacation I planned before I start work. This month is the only time I have before I start work full-time.
3: Planning to apply after 2 or 3 years on the job. (Apply in 2017? for Class of 2020?)

Why do you ask?

*Update: finished the all the Math MGMAT Guides, retook the OG Diagnostic and got all questions except the first one (careless) correct.
Went 8 minutes over 2 minutes per question.
Planning to review questions that took over 3 minutes.
Next Steps: practice OG Quant problems, then MGMAT Verbal Strategy guides, then OG Verbal problems, then CATs.
10 days from Test Day!

Thanks,
Brandon

Hi brandonh,

I asked about your overall plans because the situation you've described is 'difficult.' The 700+ score represents that 90th percentile, which means that 90% of Test Takers either CAN'T or WON'T do what it takes to hit that score range. Most Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time to hit their 'peak' scores. So....you have a high-level goal AND you're not putting in as much study time as most Test Takers... that combination of variables doesn't often lead to success. That having been said, you could still very well hit your goal score in the time that you've planned for. Since Business Schools don't care if you take the GMAT more than once, you can proceed as you've planned and take the GMAT in 10 days. If you hit your goals, then you're all set; if you don't, then you can always continue to study and retake the GMAT later.

No, that is not the case. GMAC issues research reports specifically about prep time, for example here:

https://www.mba.com/global/the-gmat-blog ... -gmat.aspx

If you're looking at the tables, note that median study time is far lower than mean study time. Median time for 700+ test takers is probably in the 60-75 hour range, so if 700+ level test takers study 1.5 hours per day, then most are spending less than two months in total on prep. Even at 1 hour per day, most are spending less than three months.

"how-to-get-6-0-awa-my-guide": https://gmatclub.com/forum/how-to-get-6-0-awa-my-guide-64327.html

Timeline:
1. Familiarize myself with the GMAT by reading MGMAT GMAT Roadmap
2. Diagnose problem areas by taking OG Diagnostic
3. Go through MGMAT SC Strategy Guide, taking notes and answering problem sets in the guides
4. Practice CAT, error log and review
5. Go through Quant MGMAT Strategy Guides, taking notes and answering problem sets in the guides
6. Review CAT, update Error Logs
7. Math Problem Sets from OG15
8. Practice CAT, error log and review
9. Go through MGMAT RC and CR Strategy Guides
10. Practice CAT, error log and review
11. Refine DS, PS, CR, SC, RC processes
12. Fine-tune timing strategies

Happy to answer any questions about my process.
