Can someone explain me what will be verb over here-

This sandwich is the only one of all the sandwiches made at the deli that (is/are) inedible

IMO.

Whenever there is THE ONLY or NOT ONE modifying SUBJECT ==>USE SINGULAR VERB.

This sandwich is the only one of all the sandwiches made at the deli that IS inedible.

IMO.

Whenever there is ONLY or NOT ONE modifying SUBJECT ==>USE SINGULAR VERB.

This sandwich is the only one of all the sandwiches made at the deli that IS inedible.

hi veenu,

it is advisable to remember these:

1. One of the Xs that/who <plural>
2. One of the Xs <singular>
3. only One of the Xs <singular>
4. only One of the Xs that/who <plural>
5. "the" only One of the Xs that/who <singular>

As per the explanation in the book, the subject is this Sandwich, although it will not make any diff on verb, can you please help me to identify in case of such ambiguities.

Just apply the "cut the fluff" technique and you get:

"This sandwich is the only one....that is inedible."

The phrase "OF all the sandwiches made AT the deli" - this is all fluff that does not contribute to the core skeleton of the sentence.
