Hi S. Roy,

You still have plenty of time to study before your Test Date, which is good. Many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) on their studies, so since you've been studying for just 1 month, you just have not put in enough practice time and effort yet.

Using this first CAT result as a 'baseline', you should probably continue studying for the next week as you have been, then take another FULL-LENGTH CAT. Based on those results, we'll have a better idea of whether you're still improving on your own or if you'll have to make some adjustments. You should post back here once you have those results.

While you might not want to purchase any new resources, doing so might be necessary to help you hit your score goals.

Dear Rich,

My next exam [GMATPrep Test 2] is on 29/08/2015, Saturday. I will post here.

As I have already invested a lot (according to me), I may buy new resources if it's only absolutely necessary.

Regards,
S. Roy

hi Raysaranya,

I am also preparing for GMAT now, but here is my 2 cents. Did you maintain an error log to understand why scored only 64% on SC on the OG. Ideally the score should be higher. You should first find out where you weakness lies. is it understanding grammar (is it idiom, modifiers, S-V) or is it just understanding meaning of the sentence.

For RC, go through the below link, this person had a similar issue, he has detailed how he overcame RC.

650-to-750-a-10-month-journey-to-the-score-203190.html#p1558631

For DS (or anything Quant), you have to follow the math genius bunuel and his threads (see the key one below). Also there are some tips on DS too in the above link (like Empower)

all-you-need-for-quant-140445.html#p1130136

But did you actually practice OG quants. If you have done that, you can try gmatclub tests that are best, but if you dont want to buy a separate package, then please find other materials in bunuel's link above.

Thanks,
---Kudos if this post helped you---

Dear Rich,

I have scored 640 yesterday [Q47, V31] in GMATPrep Practice Test 2 and my weak areas are DS and SC respectively.

I have spent the evening reviewing yesterday's errors. Not at all satisfied with my verbal pacing also. I was wrong at 2 CR questions. Among the four RC passages, I attempted 3 (had to leave the long passage due to lack of time]. I got 7 correct out of 9 attempted. But SC performance was horrible.

In PS, I corrected 18 out of 19 but again, DS performance was not unto the mark.

Regards,
Roy

Hi Roy,

Based on this recent CAT result, I'm a bit concerned about your Verbal 'progress' - it's been almost 2 weeks and you earned the same Verbal Scaled Score that you did on your first CAT. This likely means that you still 'see' (and respond to) the Verbal section of the Test in the same general ways. To raise your score to a V38+, you're going to have to focus on Verbal tactics and put in some extra practice on 'GMAT grammar' (and learn the common patterns that appear in SCs).

You still have plenty of time to study before your October 7th Test Date, so you can continue to work with the materials that you have. However, if your next CAT result includes a similar Verbal Scaled Score, then you will almost certainly have to invest in some new resources and learn some new tactics.

Thank you Rich for your suggestion. I will write the next CAT [gmatclub's test] in 10-12 days after a borough revision of GMAT grammar [gmatclub's book]. If my verbal score doesn't shoot up, then I will invest positively (you need to help me with something for one month time).

Hi raysaranya,

To properly track your progress and improvement, it would be in your best interest to take a FULL-LENGTH CAT (including the Essay and IR sections) and not a Club Test. We need to see how you handle the full Test, taken in a realistic and test-like fashion.

Could you suggest me one as I don't want to spend the rest 2 GMATPrep test now only?

(I have gmatclub and 800score tests in my kitty as of now!)
