Hello
dbanerjee, welcome to GMAT Club.
GMAT and CAT are very different exams. Your graduation score is also a point of concern. Having said that you still have a good chance to crack into any good school provided you have a good GMAT/CAT score. Since you don't have any work experience as of now getting into a B School with a GMAT will be difficult.
So, given the timeline start preparing for the CAT exam, buy CAT specific books to understand the exam and strategize accordingly. If you get a good score in CAT (or other exams like XAT, IIFT, SNAP etc.) then you stand a good chance. However, if your long term goal (that has to be in the next 2 years) is to get into one year MBA programs like ISB, IIM or schools abroad like Oxford, Judge etc. you need to get at least 2 years of work experience (5 for IIMs). Even 2 year MBA programs in US also look for atleast 2 years of work experience. If you're hell bent on getting into an MBA program next year then CAT is your only option.
So, my suggestion-
1. Get a good job and start working on your profile.
2. Ask yourself- why you need an MBA?
https://gmatclub.com/forum/why-mba-84855.html#p6358353. Start preparing for CAT, transitioning into GMAT won't be that difficult- I found GMAT Verbal a notch higher than the CAT Verbal.
4. Should you decide to prepare for GMAT only, be active on GMAT club and start mastering the topics.
5. Learn more about the programs and schools. For someone with your work experience MiM (Masters in Management) is also a good option. Schools like ISB also has EEO (Early Entry Option) here you can apply now, get selected and join after you complete 24 months of work experience. Search on GMAT Club you'll find lots of information.
6. Share your detailed profile and aspiration with a consultant/expert. Seek help, but you must have some clarity- it's only then they can help you. Just asking whether I should write GMAT or CAT won't help.
I'd be happy to answer any followup questions, cheers.
