I have read a few interesting FT/PT threads and get the gist of it - basically FT if the person wants a career change and want full access to career services while PT students will have limited career services and the career change wont be as drastic.

Here is my dilemma:
I have currently worked ~5 years in the IT field and my profile is Undergrad: 3.0 Grad (master comp sci) 3.3 with 720 GMAT. I currently reside in utica, ny and it is nowhere near any good schools that i want to get into - basically if i want to go to ANY good business school i will need to relocate. the company i work for may have locations near some schools so i *could* possibly retain my job when i move. I havent (dared) ask my hr person if the company will reimburse business school but i know for school reimbursement i have to give reason why said courses would better my current position (IT)...

So here are a few questions to the veterans out there...
1. if i go for the "best school" i can get into FT, can i switch to PT if the company i work for can reimburse me or relocate me?
2. In my situation where i basically need to "quit my job", is it better to just go for FT?

1. Generally no, but not always the case. Most programs only allow you to apply for full-time OR part-time. I think rhyme knows of at least one person that made the switch at Booth though, so it can be done.

2. This entirely depends on you. I wouldn't even consider doing a part-time MBA if it wasn't sponsored by my employer, but that's just me and my career interests. If you want to continue working in IT, but simply add more responsibility (i.e. engineering management), the part-time program might be a great fit. No one can answer this question for you - sorry :/

thanks for the reply. I assume you are doing FT? Did you try to find out if your company wouldve paid for PT or you just went FT? I know people in the workplace gossip a lot so i dont think it is "safe" to ask anyone there... any suggestion on how to ask? maybe a hypothetical at my HR person as if i wanted to go to a local community college?
