Hi all,

I am an international student, and have received acceptance for the SUNY Buffalo MBA program Full time, and a rejection for the Full Time MBA from UT Dallas, Naveen Jindal SOM, but I have been offered a seat for the P-MBA Flex program. Which do you think is better for me? I hope someone will be a able to guide me.

i believe SUNY Buffalo MBA will be better.
Since u r 28, P-MBA Flex program can also be a good option. It will save you one year as well.

Best of luck

The PMBA Flex is the Professional MBA Flex at Naveen Jindal School of Management at UT Dallas. I believe it is their name for a part time MBA. They do mention that if you do the Full Time MBA, This Professional Flexible MBA or their Evening MBA, you get the same degrees for an MBA only. Also the PMBA Flex has the same course load, and credit hour requirements but is just separate from their Full Time MBA, as it has the priority.
I would like advice on whether the brand matters here more, or will I be able to do well even with the SUNY Buffalo Program.

I agree that SUNY Buffalo will be a good option.

Truthfully, I don't think the perceived gap in brand name is all that great. The bigger question will be if you prefer to be at a full-time MBA program or a part-time program. The experience is definitely different.

Additionally, there is a difference between going to school in Texas (Dallas) and New York (Buffalo.) That likely has an impact on recruiting options, local companies, etc. Of course, there's always the weather question.

Point being, brand is important but it's not the only criteria you should use when deciding. If you want to share more about your priorities, that'll be good too.

I believe that as an international student I would benefit more from whatever option provides more connections. As you have mentioned, that brand doesn’t matter, and Full Time is better, it makes things clearer. Ideally I am looking to transition from my current role in the construction project controls industry to one in the Project Finance sector.

Most of our past clients note that the full-time MBA is better for making connections and forging relationships. That's because you are present together on campus throughout the duration of your MBA experience.

The part-time of flex programs are more or less for working professionals. Said students are juggling jobs and other outside obligations and so it's harder to find time to network.

Of course, post-MBA you can make as many connections as you wish by leveraging your MBA alumni database, but most close relationships tend to be formed during your shared time with your fellow students.

I'm not sure if either program is better in terms of project finance, but you should ask current students, alumni or the admissions office to get more information about coursework and job placement in this field.

Congrats and good luck!

Hello mbaguy95,

We always believe in recommending the flagship MBA at any school. Besides, a full-time MBA comes with its own share of advantages. Hence, SUNY Buffalo should ideally be preferred.

Good luck!
