I am looking for some advice. I am basically in IT (15+ years). Got a GMAT 680 last year, erolled for MBA at Kelley (corporate program), fully employer paid.
A year later, I am begining to question what an MBA will get me at this stage of my career.
I am now mulling switching to a specialized MS (Global Supply Chain Management). Most of my IT experience has been in enterprise warranty, service-parts ordering and now, warehouse management systems. So it might be a fit? Perhaps to move to consulting?
I am interested in the wisdom and opinion of the members here. Please provide your two cents worth...

I dont know, supply chain people I deal with at work are a lot more on the procurement side, much more operations background with some finance. I dont know how much IT plays a role in it unless you are looking at supply chain at a IT company. I know a lot of it is sourcing iand logistics ssues, and that type of stuff. Think Apple trying to get all the parts and assembly for the Ipad together.
Also very siloed area, if you are in there you are in that for life. Its not like finance where you could move across the company. So you better like it because it will be harder to get out of or switch than some less specialized areas.

Hi,
With your IT knowledge, it is better for you to start working as Procurement expert in many company related to IT field like hp, Dell,......as you can consult your customer - company engineers on what you should buy and how to make use the best of it and esp you can have more negotiation power as you know clearly the specification. With your value experience and your MBA degree, you will go much further in SC.
However, most of all you have to love what you will do. That is the most important factor in your career path.
