Hey all,
I am new here and haven't found any topics regarding the universities I am applying for.
I am currently finishing my MS Finance in South America at a leading university with a focus on Quant. Finance (courses taken include Stochastic Calculus, Derivatives Pricing, Portfolio Optimization, Asset Pricing, Machine Learning, Econometrics and so on).
I am interested in applying for the PhD program at the Swiss Finance Institute, aiming mostly at the University of Geneva, the University of Zurich and the University of Lausanne. Only the University of Zurich requires a GMAT score "expected to surpass 660", but the others accept the scores.
I have taken the GMAT with a week's preparation, as I am currently taking coursework and working on a paper. The total score was 730, Q 74% and V 94%, with 96% overall. I didn't do very well at timing, which explains the low quant score. I honestly have no idea if that is a good score. The isn't time to take the exam before the application deadline.
My grades are quite good, though at my university grades quite rarely exceed 90% and quite often are below 80%, so perhaps not similar to the US. In any case, I have gotten one grade between 60-70%, one within 70-80%, around 6 between 80% and 90% and 3 between 90% and 100% in the more relevant coursework.
My research experience is perhaps a weak point. I have acted as RA in grad school, but I haven't submitted my thesis for submission yet, nor have I published papers in the area. My advisor is, however, willing to stand by my commitment and potential to do research, as well as formal training.
Finally, I am not a genius at all, but I have always dreamed of doing research. In spite of the lack of relevant publications, I have been quite involved in research and teaching activities in undergrad and grad school.
Question (perhaps a childish one, but please give me a friendly first-question-break): to the more informed ones, at a first glance, how do the chances of acceptance to the programs look?
Thanks very much, guys
