Well I finally did it - I took the GMAT today at 12:45 and let me tell you, I am GLAD its over! However, the score I got looks like I will be taking the exam again.
First things first - the test center was very professional, not many people were there so it was a good atmosphere - and the test is in the exact same format as the practice software (GMATPrep). So once you are familiar/comfy with that you will be set.
The essays to me are easy - I can write pretty well and pretty fast when I have to. However I consider the essays more of an annoyance than anything.
The math - is it harder than ETS? I couldnt tell you because this was my first time. But I can tell you this, there was less of an emphasis on triangles then there has been on all the practice material. I only saw 2 combo/permu questions - and they were near the end when unfortunately I was running out of time. I would say that while the math isnt necessarily harder, it does make you think a little more because they present different figures (I did see a quadrilateral, a pentagon, parallelogram) so know your figures. I had been in the 39-42 range so the 38 is disappointing. I ran out of time on the math which is unusual for me and made me panic a little.
The verbal - my god, to me this section just seems to get harder every time. On my practice tests I was scoring between 35-38 and I was shocked to see a 40 on this section. To me the sentence correction answer choices all look so similar now with only slight discrepency's compared to blatantly obvious wrong answers on Kaplan (easy-med ques). I felt like every question was hard on the verbal with the exception of maybe 2-3. But thats just me.
Thanks for all of the good vibes and support. As I prepare to retake the exam I will be using this forum a little more closely - it seems like the people who are getting 700+ have a totally different style of prep then I did. Cant say I am loving the idea of taking this thing again - however I am happy I got a 640 - it is a good score, its 80th percentile and 6 months ago I couldnt have hoped for a score out of the 500's.
