Taaffeite costs more per ounce than painite. But since plutonium costs more per ounce than platinum, it follows that taaffeite costs more per ounce than platinum.

Any of the following, if introduced into the argument as an additional premise, makes the argument above logically correct EXCEPT:

A. Plutonium costs more per ounce than taaffeite.

B. Taaffeite and plutonium cost the same per ounce.

C. Painite and plutonium cost the same per ounce.

D. Painite costs more per ounce than platinum.

E. Painite costs more per ounce than plutonium.

Source: GMAT Free (16)

Taaffeite > painite ; plutonium > platinum

So, Taaffeite > platinum (Main Conclusion)

(A) plutonium > platinum > Taaffeite (Refutes main conclusion)

(B) Taaffeite > painite ;
___plutonium > platinum (Can be concluded)

(C) Taaffeite > painit = plutonium > platinum (Can be concluded)

(D) Taaffeite > painite > plutonium > platinum (Can be concluded)

(E) Taaffeite > painite > plutonium > platinum (Can be concluded)

Hence, Answer must be (A)

A doesn't refute anything. It could be that plutonium > platinum > Taaffeite . It could also be that plutonium > Taaffeite > platinum. Since it can't be concluded, it is incorrect.
