Hi guys,
I am in a dilemma, while is the general consensus to leave actual Gmat questions to the final lap,
as i do
Mgmat Books, it'd refer me to the OG questions, that would mean me actually doing the actual questions!
What should i do??
What you should do -first and foremost -
If you own the OG 12, read through it to know about the test and kind of questions tested.
After doing so, take a free mock diagnostic test on any website -
MGMAT, Kaplan, knewton to get a small trailer of the GMAT.(Try to sit through the entire test even if you have to guess some answers)
This will tell you at what level you are as of now. What I mean to say is - If you feel that your math skills are too rusty and weak - Start with
MGMAT Math Foundations - its a good book.
If your Verbal skills are weak try Verbal Foundations for a decent start.
If you feel that you do not need to revisit the grass-roots of quant and verbal , Start with the
MGMAT Strategy Guides and try solving the first 5-10 questions of OG 12 in every section. If you can solve then easily, then continue doing so, which itself would take a lot of time. Just make sure you read the entire explanation for every single of the 900 questions.
You can also check out Kaplan Text books - Premier and Workbooks.
But believe me by just working through the
MGMAT Strategy Guides and entire OG 12 you can easily reach 600-650 level. (atleast that worked for me) Since GMAT tests only a limited proportion of Quant and Verbal, using standard practice materials is the safest way to go. You can leave the end 50 or so questions for the later part of your prep since they are more difficult.
Pushing your score from 650 to 700 or beyond is going to be quite a tough battle - that is the time to move to non-standard material of different prep companies and give yourself more time to practice. If from right now you start with tons of material you risk burning yourself out.
Thats my view, but dont take my word for it, you know what to do next after you take a mock.
Some things you should know when you start:
Dont just work on Quant or Verbal - Try to practice both.
OG 12 is the bible - don't question its explanations or answers and read through every single word of it.
Dont study 7 days a week - Take atleast 1 day off.
Dont take any other CATs before finishing off the entire syllabus.
Keep a small diary or something to record the answers you got incorrect and revisit them after a month.
Instead of working with 2 books once, do 1 book twice.
Prepare you own notes/flashcards/cheatsheets while studying. Helps a lot in revision.
Read through GMAT Experiences - Doing so will give you a lot of motivation and drive.
Cheers!
