I have attempted GMAT online twice last year and I am planning for the third attempt in 2021-22. Is it possible to take online GMAT the third time ? I can't find the option of applying online on official GMAT website.
sorry but I think as of today, you can only appear for the GMAT online twice. Its a bummer! :(

Was your first online attempt when GMAC only allowed an online whiteboard?

Hi VIRAAT,

Unfortunately, you don't have an option to take GMAT Online more than twice. Having said that, if you need any help with the study strategy to improve your GMAT score, do get in touch with me. As this is gonna be your third attempt, I'm sure you don't want to take a chance. So, prepare well this time and give the test only when you are 100% confident.

You can use the below link to get in touch with me.

Hi VIRAAT,

Although the policy could change at some point, at this very moment you can take the online GMAT only two times. By chance are you able to take it at a test center?

If you can take the GMAT 8 times in a lifetime and 5 times within a rolling 12 month period, what exactly is the logic / reason behind restricting the ability to take the test online to only two attempts? How does it matter where one takes the GMAT if the overall limits still apply? Just curious (and a bit puzzled). Thanks.

Hey guys, turns out you can take the GMAT online more than twice. I've taken two attempts but while registering today I was able to book the online variant - although I'm not sure what the cap is

ayushmandey97 did you get any more information on the third attempt?

I am facing the same dilemma, able to register for the gmatonline exam even after 2 attempts.

Their support team does not seem to have any information if it is still possible to take the exam or not. Examity and GMAC just keep redirecting to each other.

If anyone has information on this topic, please let me know.

Hi srikanth27,

Edit:

Based on the information here, there does not currently appear to be the prior 'limit' on 2 attempts at the At-home/Online GMAT. All attempts (meaning at a Test Center and through the At-home option) are simply lumped-together into the 8-attempt lifetime limit:

https://www.mba.com/exams/gmat-exam/register?nav=header

1) On what dates did you take each of your Official GMATs and how did you score (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
2) What is your overall goal score?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

As far as I know, you can take the GMAT online just two times. You have not been able to reach anyone at GMAC by phone?

GMAC has updated their policy in Oct 2021. A year ago, removing any prior limitations of only 2 online exams. Now you can take up to 8 tests and they can be in person or online or a combination. Total of 8.

PS. There may be some confusion because prior to October of last year, you could only take two online tests so some of the information you may be finding is referring to that prior limitation.

You can take the GMAT up to five times total in a rolling 12-month period, regardless of format. For example, you could take it three times online and twice in person in a 12-month period and that would be your five-test limit. Likewise, you can take the GMAT up to eight times total in your life, regardless of format.

Thank you bb for the confirmation. The FAQ section is pretty confusing on this topic though.
https://www.gmac.com/gmat-other-assessm ... e%20limits

EMPOWERgmatRichC ScottTargetTestPrep I tried reaching them on phone, but neither took responsibility. Both GMAC and Examity were unsure on the policy and just told me to ask each other.

I have anyways booked a test centre exam. Slots were scarce and could not bring myself to risk a re-examination due to this reason :)

Thanks,
Srikanth

Which part is confusing? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Starting October 20, 2021 candidates' exam attempts for the online exam will increase and count toward their total exam attempt limits – 5 in a rolling 12-month period and 8 in a lifetime.

I heard back from GMAC and can confirm that online GMAT attempts will count towards overall 8-lifetime limit. And that the 2-attempt limit no longer applies.

Thanks for reporting back and glad to hear that it’s consistent with our understanding. 👍
