Hi all,
college senior here looking to take the GMAT to enroll in an Msc after graduation. I don't need to prep for Verbal now as I am pretty good with it. My main weakness is math. I am very rusty and have forgotten many of the foundations (Long division even). I took the Target Test Prep trial diagnostic test and scored 12/31. My question here is: Is Target Test Prep better for somebody in my situation or Magoosh ? I am pretty good with tips and tricks and mental math from my SAT time so I would prefer a course that includes more of these tricks and ways than a full-on math course.

Hi bodida,

Welcome to GMATCLUB! Although both courses are very well designed and have helped hundreds of students in their preparations, I personally loved TTP. For Quant, you can consider TTP. It is a very well designed course and covers the entire syllabus really well. It will certainly help you solidify your base as well. I must add that if you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in Quant; a subscription to GMATCLUB tests is the best way to do that. They are indeed phenomenal and will not only pinpoint your weak areas but also help you improve on them.

Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas.

Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practice tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that.

Lastly I would also encourage you to purchase the GMATPREP QP 1 for some great additional practice.

You can also go through the below link to design a Quant specific study plan.

Hope this helps. All the best.

Hi bodida,

In all honesty, since you correctly answered only 12 questions out of 31 on the TTP diagnostic, it’s pretty clear that you need to spend time really mastering GMAT quant rather than focusing on tips and tricks if you are to earn a top GMAT quant score.

The good news is that TTP has all you need for GMAT quant. We are the top rated GMAT quant course here on GMAT club, and, if you can complete the course, IN FULL, you’ll be able to dominate GMAT quant on test day.

Also, in addition to hearing from folks on this thread, you may find it helpful to read a few TTP debriefs from students who improved from Q44 to Q50 and Q46 to Q51.

If you have any further questions regarding TTP, feel free to reach out to me directly.

Hi bodida,

Many GMATers find that their Quant and Verbal skills are somewhat 'rusty' when they begin their studies - so you're not alone. Given your concerns, there are some things that you can do BEFORE you start formally studying for the GMAT.

For free math practice and help, I recommend that you set up an account at Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.org). The site is completely free and makes the learning a bit more fun and 'game-like' (as opposed to the dry academic approach taken by most books). While the site is vast, you should limit your studies to basic Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry. After spending a little time re-building those skills, you can re-start your GMAT studies.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on your timeline and your goals:

1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
3) When are you planning to apply to School?
4) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
