I agree my friend, you must only take one step at a time, but, if you have completed an MBA from a top 25 us school, the chances reduce exponentially. I believe, if you are targetting the 750-760 score, you'll do well with the strategy you currently wish to pursue

Hi Sparta_750,

GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Assuming a similar 'swing' in how your CATs function, your recent CAT score results - along with the Official Score that you have listed in your profile - show that you essentially performed the same each time (about 700 +/- a few points). You handle certain aspects of the GMAT consistently well, but you also leave yourself open to making certain types of mistakes.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long ago did you take the Official GMAT?
2) For your recent studies, how many hours do you typically study each week?

Goals:
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
4) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi Sparta_750,

Your plan seems quite thorough and structured, so I like to see that. Your quant seems to be in a great place, so I think that at this point, verbal is what is holding you back. With that in mind, is it safe to say that CR is your major weakness in verbal? If so, would you like some general advice on how to improve your verbal skills? Also, since you took your last practice exam about a month ago, it will be interesting to see how you score on your next official practice exam to track your improvement. Do you plan to take that practice exam in the next week or so?

Hi Rich,

I attempted GMAT first in 2015 end and scored 720. But that time my focus was to get 700+ score only and I had limited time.

I attempted GMAT prep exams 5 & 6 last week, and scored 740 in both with identical splits (Q49, V42).

With exam roughly 25 days to go, I still have 100-120 hrs at my disposal including for mocks.

On the target schools front, I am looking to target top 10-15 schools with a focus on finance. In a perfect world I would want Wharton but I would still be happy with NYU in this world.

Cheers

Hi Scott,

I focussed heavily on verbal and increased my score to 42 on the last two GMAT prep exams I attempted last week with Q49 & 740 overall.

It's reasonable to say that i am getting better at verbal part but at the same time, I am still stuck at 49 for quant. I would feel way better if I start scoring 50 consistently. But that's something I am unable to break till now. ( On a brighter side, scored 49 on GMAT prep exams 2-6)

Cheers

Hi Sparta_750,

At higher-and-higher Score levels, points can be won and lost rather easily, meaning that if you are looking to squeeze out as many additional points as possible on the GMAT, we have to better define how you are currently performing during your CATs. "Review" is an exceptionally important part of the GMAT training process; your ability to define WHY you're getting questions wrong is essential to defining the areas that you need to work on (and the specific things that you need to 'fix'). As such, I'd like to know a bit more about your last CAT. While a full Mistake Tracker would provide a lot more information, there are some basic questions that you should be able to answer (and the more EXACT you can be with your answers, the better):

After reviewing each section of this recent CAT, how many questions did you get wrong....
1) Because of a silly/little mistake?
2) Because there was some math/verbal that you just could not remember how to do?
3) Because the question was too hard?
4) Because you were low on time and had to guess?
5) How many Verbal questions did you 'narrow down to 2 choices' but still get wrong?
