Hi, I'm headed to Ross this fall, and I'm considering applying to Tauber. I have an engineering background (Master's in Electrical Engineering from top program) and have worked in the software industry (engineering software) for the past 5-6 years. After b-school, I would like to go into (engineering/cleantech/energy) industry with an interest in GM. So far, I have been exposed to development, quality, marketing (internship), so the missing piece is operations/manufacturing. I also took a career assessment test; regardless of how much stock one can put in such tests, it did say that I'm well-suited for operations management (and GM). That and given the fact that any CEO (my dream) would have to be well-versed in all aspects of running a business, I'm trying to get exposure to all the important aspects of a business.
Based on my research, Tauber seems to be a pretty good fit, since it combines engineering and business. One thing I especially like about it is that it doesn't prolong the MBA program - it's still a 2-year program. One concern I have is that it seems to have a huge emphasis on operations, which is partly what I'm looking for, but I'm more interested in learning how to combine knowledge in all the relevant domains to run a successful business. One student ambassador said in his testimony that he was exposed to cross-functional areas, including operations, marketing, and strategy - this is exactly what I'm looking for. The other concern I have is how flexible the Tauber internship program is. It says that an internship is guaranteed, but I'm a little concerned about how students are assigned to those internships and whether we can still get internships outside of the Tauber program, if we so choose. I didn't apply to Tauber in my Ross application, though, but in retrospect, I probably should have, which may have gotten me some scholarship money (fingers crossed).
Anyway, if you're in the Tauber program or are an alumnus, I would love to hear your input/opinion on the program. Thank you in advance!
