That’s a good question and a few folks have wanted and considered it over the years arguing that it is an investment into one’s career and since relocation expenses and other work-related expenses (uniform, etc) can often be claimed as a deduction, I can see a good argument why MBA costs should deductible for tax purposes.
I don’t think we ever found a black and white answer but we got to a few conclusions... IRS does not seem to take educational expenses related to apps to be tax-deductible since there are already a number of tax-advantages vehicles (529 plans). In addition, there is a break on the interest paid up to a certain income level, which also indicates the specifically carved it out and if one was able to deduct expenses on taxes that were paid with loans or 529 funds, it would be double-dipping.
