I'm in the process of filling out my MBA apps and have a question about my team management experience. I started my own software company and hired part-time employees that worked remotely for me. I was still responsible for managing them and guiding the work product through daily phone calls and emails. In my essays, I briefly talk about this team management experience (as it's the only team management experience that I have) but there's no room (essay word limit constraint) to explain that they were part-time employees and worked remotely. Do I need to disclose that they were part-time/remote? In my app, under work experience, it also asks how many team members I managed.

Hey Amy,
I don't think you need to mention either that they were part-time or remote. I mean they were part of your team and you were managing them. But at the same time you don't want to artificially inflate your numbers beyond anything reasonable. Meaning if you have ten folks working for you part-time, then you are leading a team of ten. But if you have thirty people working for you for 2 hours a week and then five for 20, I'd say " I manage a team of five plus another 20 freelancers". or something like that. Yes, you want to promote yourself, and yes you want it to be honest.

Thanks. It was only 2-3 part-timers that worked over 20 hours per week so nothing big.
I also have a question about the proper/best title on my bschool resume and application. If I founded my own firm with someone, is co-founder the best title? I think there's some flexibility on what job title I can use here. The person who I started the firm with left to take another job in the industry and I've at it by myself. Should I use founder instead? Does it matter if I use founder vs co-founder?
