I have an upcoming interview scheduled and the school in question makes explicit that it uses Google Talk to conduct interviews. Luckily for me, I've got a Macbook, and Google Talk does not work with Macs. So, I had a few questions for the broad community: (1) does anybody have experience using Google Talk (video capabilities a must) from a Mac to a Windows user (the only idea I've had is to get a free trial of Windows and run it through Bootcamp or VMware, but I'd rather not get that messy if there is an easier alternative); and (2) I'm hesitant to request to use Skype (don't want to appear inflexible, don't want to burden admissions), does that seem logical?

Would appreciate any input before I try the Windows VMware path. Thanks!

Eh? In what way does Google Talk not work with Mac? I have a Macbook and use it to video chat through GoogleTalk with my girlfriend who has a Windows computer on a regular basis.

Perhaps you're referring to Google Chat (the chat you use when logged into gmail through a Web page), rather than the Google Talk platform?

You can set up iChat to work with google talk. You can find directions by googling ichat google talk.

Otherwise, it should work directly in the browser.

Yeah, I tried the iChat thing, and was able to connect for text chats, but no luck on video calls. Also, with me using gchat from the browser, again I was able to connect for text chats but not video calls to a Windows user on the Google Talk platform.

Any ideas, or must I be going wrong somewhere?

For the browser to work, you have to have the voice and video chat plug in. It works on safari for me. The text chat will come automatically, but you have to install the plug in i think.

i think if you log in to gmail and then go to settings-> chat, there should be a option for you to install and configure it.

As far as I know, video chat only works when both users are logged in to the gmail web site - if either user is on google talk it will not work - doesn't matter whether you are on Windows or Mac.
