Hey,
I am a Telfer (University of Ottawa) first year MBA student. Unofficially and voluntarily, I have decided to help students out who might be interested in joining the Telfer MBA Program. I have aggregated information from the site and other sources that people generally need. If you have any specific queries, then I will try my best to answer them on the forum itself. I am also including the contact info of the graduate office at the end of this post, which is also there on the official website (
https://telfer.uottawa.ca/en/mba/).
Why Telfer MBA (University of Ottawa)?Location–“Ottawa is also home to a world-class tech sector, recognized as Canada’s #1 tech hub by Expert Market, with foci including autonomous vehicles, telecom, SAAS, and e-commerce, along with dozens of embassies, dozens of head offices of national trade and professional associations, and dozens of not-for-profit and charitable organizations.”
Kanata (suburb of Ottawa) is a tech-hub and has Kanata North Business Park, which is regarded as the Silicon Valley of the north as it has 100s of tech-companies. For a list of companies present in this specific park in different industries, click on the following link:
https://www.kanatanorthba.com/area/industry-profiles/After graduating, one can look for opportunities in the public and private sectors. As Ottawa is the capital of Canada, there are plenty of public sector jobs available. In an unlikely scenario, if one cannot find the desired job in the Ottawa region, one can also look for jobs in the nearby cities of Toronto and Montreal, which are 4 and 2 hours’ drive from Ottawa. Depending on your background, this distance might be too much or not so much for you. For Indians like me, two hours is the average time we spend to go to work every day. But, for local Canadians, that can be a lot. In fact, locals consider 40 mins drive as like traveling to a different city. Access to a large pool of jobs in these three cities allows Telfer graduates access to plenty of opportunities in any area that they are looking for a job in.
Excellent ROI and Education Standard–With low tuition (28k CAD for Domestic and 64k for Professional), triple accreditation (AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS), and high average graduate salary (85k+ CAD), this is one of the best schools one can do MBA from especially if ROI is a concern for you and risk is not something you are in love with. Other schools offer similar education but at a top level of tuition.
No school in Canada has a 100% employment rate. Some, however, unlucky ones invest as much as 100k+ CAD in MBA tuition only to find a job with a salary of 60k CAD and some unlucky ones even remain unemployed for many months after graduation. This is a true but sad reality of the MBA world.
