Reporting that one of its many advisors had been detained by police, the organization expressed its support and reaffirmed its belief that the advisor would soon be released.
A. its many advisors had been detained by police
B. its many advisors has been detained by police
C. its many advisors is the recently police-detained
D. their many advisors is detained by police
E. their many advisors had been detained by police
We'll want to use had been detained as the organization has expressed support and reaffirmed belift (past tense) after the arrest ( an even before the organization's show of support).
This leaves us with (A) and (E). Organization is singular, so we'll need its instead of their. So (A) is my choice.
Visitors to Toronto have often gone to the top of the CN tower, the world’s tallest freestanding structure, and see the entire city beneath them.

I'll go B and E.
In the first one, although the detainment did happen before the expression of support, the detainment is ongoing, hence i would choose the present perfect tense 'has' over the past perfect tence 'had'.
For the second one, I'll go E. Same reasons as above.
