Sounds good. I mean two hours a day for a week and then three days in Seattle is not really a whole lot. I would say it’s pretty much nothing 😂 so you will not learn a whole lot but you will get two very important things. One, you will get some contacts and this will be people within Amazon and also some other cool folks from other business schools so you can connect with them on LinkedIn and expand your network. Second, you will get Amazon on your résumé. It doesn’t matter that it was a very simple and non-productive internship. No one will know that. What counts is that you were chosen. Think about putting Harvard business school on your résumé - do you think that if you got in but could not attend for some terrible reason and if you really did get in, if you showed somebody that you got excepted versus you actually going to Harvard and spending two years there, do you think people would be thinking a lot less of you just because you didn’t have a chance to go? I mean nobody gets kicked out of the business school so if you were good enough for Harvard, clearly you are amazing in someway and I feel getting accepted is more than half of the value of the internship program 😂

Anyway, it’s also good confidence boost though I would not count on the great return offer. It’s not very clear how much of a preference you will get but recruiting in business school is King and if I had to choose between allure of some intangible benefits from Tepper’s versus and Amazon shot, I will probably choose shot at Amazon and more certainty…

One common jumped out at me, you should not be concerned or afraid of stronger classmates. Actually the opposite. There are situations when companies have certain number of people they’re trying to recruit from a business school but usually there’s not hard targets and if they interview 10 great candidates, they’ll hire all 10 of them and if they interview 10 and only like three of them, they will only hire three. Therefore, having stronger classmates will mean that you have a stronger net work. Hopefully they feel good enough about you to help you with your recruiting struggles and help with the interview prep if they were successful and you were not free sample. We can also refer you for jobs in the future if again they were better prepared than you are. They will also motivate and force you to work harder. It’s not so much about what you come with at the beginning but rather how much you have grown during the program. If you are eager to learn and you put in hard work, no matter how bad you are, people will be your fans but if you’re coasting and just biding your time, That’s a different story.

Thanks bb.

You made some insightful points. I couldn't agree more -- being accepted speaks volume over the actual duration of program itself. I also hear from grapevine that people being accepted are in double digits -- so, yes I agree with you that regardless of the length and actual learning aspect out of this program, it is still a powerful addition to my resume.

And thankyou for enlightening me with the recruitment process. I was under the impression that companies usually have a set quota..thanks for that perspective; I appreciate that!

So, I think my POA now is to wait for Tepper to make it worth considering.
And as a second, if they do match the offer as per my thresholds, I'll try if they can help me w.r.t attendance of this program as well.. won't hurt to ask at the very least. Perhaps as an exception they might help me with the dates, who knows..

Again, thank you so much !
I will return back on this post for your guidance should I have a shift in dyanmics :)

Also, just to add.. i think when I said regarding me not being able to see such opportunities again sorta stemmed more from under confidence than from being afraid of a stronger peer group.

I do believe in the saying that if you're the smartest one in the room, you're in the wrong room. So, a stronger peer group truly is everything, where I will learn..

I just think subconsciously I felt like I lucked out on that Amazon offer and might not see it ever again 😂😂 so I guess that's how my mind was thinking, to have higher chances of conversion amongst a smaller sample than lower chances amongst a larger sample of applicants.. :D

I did not quite dig in too much into your dilemma with the dates (sorry) but bschools do have quite a bit of flexibility for travel and events and you can miss certain elements of the program. Missing some of the orientation is pretty easy though it is painful since if you miss some of the off-sites and other "fun" or "bonding" components then you kind of miss out on creating a circle and getting to know people. The off-sites and bonding sessions were some of my favorites, though I did not realize it at that time....

Good luck with your decision.
I think Tepper would be accommodating to getting you to attend the internship as long as your visa/dates/flights work.
