Hi everyone,
I am happy to report that I have been admitted to two MBA programs, but I am having trouble deciding between the options. My experience is in business development in smaller companies. Short term post-MBA, I'm looking to be a project manager at a larger company (Amazon, etc.). Long term, I want to be a leader, for example, an executive in an international product development company.
An obvious difference is between the two options is one is full-time and the other is part-time (I would be working during the Part-time program). In my case, while I am comfortable with working at my current job for the next 2+ years while completing a part-time degree, I would not mind stepping away from work and committing to a full-time program. I also think I'd be comfortable with either city (Pittsburgh and Rosslyn/DC).
Tepper (Full-Time MBA)
Pros and Cons
+Scholarship offered (~40% off)
+Excellent tech placement
-While tech focus is awesome, I am wondering if I would be pigeonholed
Darden (Part-Time MBA, located in DC)
Pros and Cons
+Better ranking/recognition
+General management, intense curriculum, world-class educators
+Part-Time would mean not losing out on income
+/-Brand new program (inaugural class). This would be an awesome experience to be a part of, but there's a lot of unknown about how the program will go.
-Part-time experience is not the same as a full-time one (less networking, clubs, no internships, etc.)
I would appreciate any thoughts or advice on this or if there are factors I should be considering.

Welcome to GMAT Club and congrats on your Admits!
I will try to make your decision easier - let me know if I am spinning my wheels or pushing in the wrong direction. The output is sort of dependent on the input. However, generally you made my job of juxtaposing pretty easy by picking a PT and FT program
1. If you are not fitting the mold of PM's in the MSFT/Amazon world with your current work history/experience you would need an internship to do a career switch. Business development can mean a few things but you want to show that you are tech savvy and will be able to learn tech fast and not just sort of float around and let it go over your head. So the first deciding factor is Internship vs. No internship. This would be easy to figure out by poking around LinkedIn and perhaps even speaking with a few of the current Tepper students.
2. PT programs are not good with recruiting paths and don't have the roads and highways that FT programs have built into Amazons of the world. With a PT program, esp inaugural away from the main campus where all of the recruiting events, coffee chats, etc would take place, you would not get much action with employers. Recruiting will be on your shoulders. As a BD person you should be pretty good about networking and connecting with people so perhaps this is not a huge concern but still, you are getting an MBA without one of the benefits and something you should set your expectations appropriately for.
3. Somewhat similar - PT programs do not give you time to recruit really. It is doable but when you are balancing School, Work, Recruiting, and heaven forbid you date or marry someone
something is going to have to give... and usually that will be recruiting. It is dangerous since other priorities can take you away from recruiting and you will not be diligent enough after 3 years of BSchool - it is depends on you of course
Ultimately, you have to decide on the format rather than programs. It is nice to have PT since you can offset the risk and work in parallel but recruiting suffers. If you are switching industries, roles, etc - a FT program is highly desirable for that internship and an opportunity to put a strong brand on your resume, which may be helpful if you have mostly experience with smaller businesses that would not give a whole lot of comfort to recruiters.
