I'm retaking the GMAT on Friday. I have a
670 now 46m/36v, which I took in early Feb. The week leading up to the exam, I did 2 GMAT Prep exams, got a 710 (47m/40v) and a 690 (47m/37v). I was disappointed by the 670 on the GMAT but I had to get my apps in so just went with that score. I've been asked to retake the GMAT by a school I've applied to.
I hadn't planned on retaking the test unless asked (or if completely rejected), so I was not studying in the interim. Once the school asked me to retake it, I began to study, which has amounted to the last 2.5 weeks. My job has given me some flexibility over the past two weeks, so I've had a good amount of time to study. I decided to focus mainly on Verbal, specifically CR, which was my weakness. I always felt strong in math so figured I'd need the least help in math and would spend about 3 days on math this week (Tues - Thurs). I did a practice test on Sunday just to see where things shake out and got a 660 (44m/38v). This is after a full week of studying Verbal and 0 time on math. On one hand I was happy that my score hadn't significantly deteriorated since it has been about 4 months since I've picked up a book, and was also happy that my verbal had improved slightly from the actual exam. My score was really strong in CR and SC but RC brought me down. I decided that before the GMAT on Friday, I'd spend a bit of time on the RC. However, taking the practice test made me realize how rusty I was on the math.
So while initially, I figured I'd spend this week honing medium and hard questions of topics I've always found challenging (work rate, work problems, combinatorics, fine tuning # properties). After reviewing my test and doing a few questions, I've come to find that I've been spending a lot of time on medium level questions, which makes me realize how rusty I am. So I decided to just hit a lot of topics (to improve speed) that are popular on the exam: yesterday I focused on fractions, decimals, percents. Today I'm doing number properties and exponents. Also need to get a good refresher on factors and multiples. and somehow need to find time for work/rate. But I don't know what to do. I have the rest of today and tomorrow and feel like there's too much material to cover. I also initially planned to use some of tomorrow to do more 700 level CR and RC just to help boost that. Seems like Verbal improvement is at a higher ranking percentage so maybe focus on that? I don't know.... What advice would you guys give?
I know over a 700 is not out of the question for me - if I wasn't under such a time crunch. Also, my unexpected rustiness in math has thrown me for a loop. I don't know what to do regarding focusing mostly on math today and tomorrow or math today and verbal tomorrow... any advice would be appreciated
note: I've done practice tests under the normal test conditions, doing all the sections, with the breaks, and all. I'm familiar with the test center, etc. I just need advice on how to optimize today and tomorrow.
