Besides the obvious thanking them for taking their time out of their busy schedules but I also make sure to point out something I learned about the school and that they reinforced everything I heard about their school.

Its good to jog their memory of who you are when you write. I was surprised at how many applicants some of these people interview.

Personally, I didn't write a thank you e-mail. I've never been good about doing that. But, it didn't work against me at all. I think it helped that I visited the campus for a super saturday 4 days after the interview and saw my interviewer and talked to her then.

I wrote a short thank you email, 3-4 sentences. I listed two things that the interviewer said which I thought was very useful and helpful. Emphasized my interest in the school, and thanked them for their time and friendliness.

Simple and sweet.
