Though I have registered only today, I have been following this forum very closely over the last 6-months. I have benefitted immensely from the suggestions of experienced members of this forum. I had actually short listed my study material purely based on the suggestions in this forum.
After juggling a lot with those study materials & my hectic office schedule, I finally managed to appear for my GMAT ,G-day on 21st OCT in a Pearson centre in NY.I scored 770. I would attribute this score primarily to the inspiration and effective advice I received from this forum.
So here is my profile in short :-
1) GMAT (taken on 21st oct 2006) -- 770(99%) (Quant-50:95%,verbal-44,97%)
2)AWA -- only a poor 4 out of 6 (34%) this is my area of greatest concern.
3) Experience -> 4 + years in IT. I have been with the same Indian based IT company and have been working for over 1.5yrs as onsite coordinator in USA.
4) Nationality - Indian.
5) Age -28 yrs
6) Graduation - Bsc Engineering (4 year course in civil engg) , grand total marks - 73%(percentage and not percentile)
7) Post grad - MCA (3-yr Masters in Computer Application), grand total marks - 76%(percentage and not percentile)
Target schools - I would like to continue in the Information systems field or as a second choice go for a general management degree. To be truthful I am open to suggestions about other specialisation as well.
Colleges i dream of :--
1) MIT Sloan
2) INSEAD - one yr MBA
3) Columbia university
I have not really explored much about the colleges but given the huge financial expenses , I would go for an MBA only if I can get into atleast the top 10 colleges in USA.
My concerns :-
1) I have a good GMAT score but a very poor AWA score , with this drawback do I stand a chance to get into any of the top 10 US MBA programs ?
2) I would like to enrol in the fall 2007 batch for MBA courses and given the time and my monetory constraints , reappearing for GMAT would be quite difficult. Given my poor AWA score and very average backgrounds do you advice me to reappear for GMAT ?
Any advice to fulfill my long standing dream of studying in top tier US business college would be greatly appreciated.
I would once again like to express my whole hearted gratitude to all the forum members whose advice and honest evaluation of the whole MBA admission process has brought me atleast to a point where I can see a chance, albeit a half chance to fulfill my dream.

IMO yes, AWA isn't a big deal. However, you will have to persuade adcom that weak AWA and strong essays (yes, you DO need strong essays!) do NOT mean that someone wrote your essays for you. I'd say: agonize over the essays; make them simple yet bright, focus on content while sticking to plain language. Push the adcom to think: "well, the guy's not a native speaker, after all; he may not be James Joyce, but hell, he is COOL!"

I was infact looking for someone in the same boat as I am in .... We would definitely make a great team and beat the adcomm folks hands down

From your earlier posts I guess you are a veteran in this forum , so you should be having a better hang of things to be done after getting through GMAT. Frankly , I have started thinking seriously about the actual colleges to apply only recently. But given the financial burden involved in a MBA program, I would go for it only if I can get into the top 10 or say the top 15 . MBA just for the sake of it would be wastage of time & precious resource. I have consulted quite a few of my friends doing MBA in INDIA and a few of my colleagues who have their near ones pursuing MBA prgms in US.
From what I could gather, applying for atleast 8/9 colleges would be our best bet. Though each application would be around $200-$300, this is a bet we would have to afford.
My current strategy ---
1) 4 from the top 10 - MIT Sloan;Columbia univ;Standord;Tuck
2) 4 from others -- Cornell, NY Stern, a few more I have not thought off
3) a few good 1 yr course - INSEAD to name one.
Form what I have learned from lurking into various Univ sites , the deadline for 2nd round applications are in the first week of Jan 2007, so we donot have much time to research. This is where joining forces among ourself would really help.
A) Could you pls suggest some good materials from internet site or else where, so that I can have an idea how an application essay should look like or how a good recommendation letter should read like
I donot have even a faint idea about these , any help , even a copy of your draft essays would be a great help !!!
B) Please let me know your MBA application strategy , which colleges you have already applied or u are thinking off and why ?
C) I have not yet appeared for TOEFL , do you think thats a necessity given the fact that I have been working in US for 1.8 yrs now and most of my education has been in english as a medium.
I would definitely refine my ideas and arrive at amore clearer picture in the comming few weeks . I would be glad to share with you all I can gather . Your idea of reviewing each other's essay is a good one ... I was looking for some one to team up with
