I had a quick question.. maybe many of you have similar questions

what is the difference between:
Sam thinks that the idea stinks and that Paul does too.
and
Sam thinks that the idea stinks, and Paul does too.

I am not understanding which one means Both Sam and Paul think the idea stinks and which one means Sam thinks both the idea and paul stink.

argh.. this is confusing..

but we say "I don't understand" :wink:

"understand" is a state verb and state verbs cannot be used with continuous tense forms.

Going in line with willget800...Does the above sentence mean the same as the one below

Sam thinks that the idea stinks and Paul does too.

Any thoughts to be shared..??

i think the sentence you mentioned is ambigious. Hence the other two options to amek it clear.. thats the way i look into it..

maybe others have a different opinion

but is it grammatically correct..

I am curious to know the usage of that in your original statement

Sam thinks that the idea stinks and that Paul does too.

I though it is redundant. Also interesting to see how the sentence can be framed in its original style to add a 3rd person eg:- Clara..

Sam thinks that the idea stinks and that Paul and Clara does too.

Not sure bit confused here.. :(
