The the in the underline part MUST be replaced with "their", and this "their" should be kept out of the underlined part (specially for this case).
Also, the underlined part should not include the full-stop (.).
The most important thing for this SC:
It seems that the correct choice is A. If the official answer is A, then it will be considered as faulty construction. Here you go for the reason-->
"have been designed to prevent" has been used as present perfect tense (with passive voice). So. we have to use present continuous tense in the bold part of choice A (considering that choice A is the legit one). As do can't cover are preventing (continuous tense), we have to replace do with are preventing.
Finally, the correct sentence would be as follows:
The African Maasai have adopted the Living Wall project in their bid to save their livestock from attacks by predators; their natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they are preventing.
^^ This one is the same as:
The African Maasai have adopted the Living Wall project in their bid to save their livestock from attacks by predators; their (The African Maasai) natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they (natural fences) are preventing.
Hi RonPurewal, MartyTargetTestPrep, jennpt, AjiteshArun, ccooley, DmitryFarber, VeritasKarishma, GMATNinja, egmat, generis
It'll be better for members if you help selecting the correct choice.
Thank you__

The African Maasai have adopted the Living Wall project in their bid to save their livestock from attacks by predators; the natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do.

A. natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do
Conveys logical meaning.

B. natural fences have been built of myrrh trees, designed to prevent the attacks, and they have been
deisigned here acts as a verb + ed modifier which can refer to trees or fences. Doesnt make sense. Incorrect.

C. natural fences built of myrrh trees are designed for preventing the attacks, and have
comma + and should then have a sentence. In this case it does not have a subject. Incorrect.

D. naturally built fences of myrrh trees have been designed for preventing the attacks, and it is
it logically refers to fences but fences are plural. is used as a verb. Incorrect

E. naturally built fences of myrrh trees are being designed to prevent the attacks, and they do
This shows that the fences are getting designed. continuous tense. Incorrect.

Ans: A

E. naturally built fences of myrrh trees are being designed to prevent the attacks, and they do

The question isn't perfect but I bet this solution might help
Let's do it by tournament method

Round 1 Subject verb agreement
D eliminated
Plural fences doesn't want the "it"

Round 2 Tense
E & C eliminated,
Tricky to understand but the action is not going on and being is avoidable

Round 3 Parallel structure
B isn't parallel
action, action, and noun phrase

A wins

The African Maasai have adopted the Living Wall project in their bid to save their livestock from attacks by predators; the natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do.

Meaning Analysis--> The African Maasai( Probably a tribe) have adopted X to prevent Y
The natural fences--> Were the fence natural or built naturally--> The former one is the correct meaning
The fences were designed to prevent attacks and they are doing their job.

Errors: The subjects and verbs are accounted for
The two Independent clauses are connected by a semicolon which is correct.
The sentence is correct as it is and gives the intended meaning.

IMHO A

A. natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do OK, keep it
B. natural fences have been built of myrrh trees, designed to prevent the attacks, and they have been - "designed" modifies trees, also "they have been" part is non sense.
C. natural fences built of myrrh trees are designed for preventing the attacks, and have - "and have" part does not make sense with preventing the attacks
D. naturally built fences of myrrh trees have been designed for preventing the attacks, and it is - it is not correct
E. naturally built fences of myrrh trees are being designed to prevent the attacks, and they do - are being designed does not makes sense with the first part "have adopted", present perfect is preferred

So (A) is our answer

I think the answer is A. "The natural fences built of myrrh tress have been..." is correct S-V agreement. The 2 sentences are in past and have correct verb tense

IMO: A

Designed To= Shows Purpose
So, A, B and E are remaining.

E is out because of --Naturally, are being-- etc
Between A and B, I will go with A as per tenses rule.

A. natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do
B. natural fences have been built of myrrh trees, designed to prevent the attacks, and they have been
C. natural fences built of myrrh trees are designed for preventing the attacks, and have
D. naturally built fences of myrrh trees have been designed for preventing the attacks, and it is
E. naturally built fences of myrrh trees are being designed to prevent the attacks, and they do

The African Maasai have adopted the Living Wall project in their bid to save their livestock from attacks by predators; the natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do.

A. natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do
fences is plural , have is a correct helping verb ... and reflex of do correctly reflect prevent ... they have been designed to prevent and they do prevent . keep the answer

B. natural fences have been built of myrrh trees, designed to prevent the attacks, and they have been
parallelism issue - have been , designed (verbed modifier), and they have been.
pronoun issue - they can point to trees or fences

C. natural fences built of myrrh trees are designed for preventing the attacks, and have
are designed for preventing and have preventing
also to prevent is better as fences are intentionally designed to prevent

D. naturally built fences of myrrh trees have been designed for preventing the attacks, and it is
fences have been designed for preventing and it is preventing -> it has no antecedent.

E. naturally built fences of myrrh trees are being designed to prevent the attacks, and they do
are being designed suggests design of the fences is still on-going

A , is the best :)

The African Maasai have adopted the Living Wall project in their bid to save their livestock from attacks by predators; the natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do.

Firstly, the last verb "do/ have been/ have/ it is" refers to prevent- thus we need a simple past or if prevent changes then accordingly

A. natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do- Correct. Also since African Maasai "have adopted"- thus we need have been
B. natural fences have been built of myrrh trees, designed to prevent the attacks, and they have been- they have been prevent- wrong- Also desinged modifiies myrrh treees- wrong
C. natural fences built of myrrh trees are designed for preventing the attacks, and have- have preventing - wrong
D. naturally built fences of myrrh trees have been designed for preventing the attacks, and it is- It has no clear antecedent,
E. naturally built fences of myrrh trees are being designed to prevent the attacks, and they do- Since they have already adopted the living wall project, if they are being designed - how they do they already prevent- meaning error

The African Maasai have adopted the Living Wall project in their bid to save their livestock from attacks by predators; the natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do.

A. natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do - good as it is
B. natural fences have been built of myrrh trees, designed to prevent the attacks, and they have been - Ok, so the second have been must logically refer to verb 'prevent" but prevent is in infinitive form, while 'have been' is present perfect, it is error. Furthermore, whatever in between commas, modifiers, can safely be removed and the meaning of the sentence should not be hurt. If we remove the fluff, we get "natural fences have been built of myrrh trees, and they have been" - does not make much sense, right? Because the sentence tries to say that fences have been built and they are still have been built - nonsense. Not the intended meaning. B is out
C. natural fences built of myrrh trees are designed for preventing the attacks, and have - Same error as in B. It is not clear to what refers 'have'. Logically must refer to 'prevent' but prevent is in form of -ing. Besides, should be designed to prevent (designed to do what? to prevent). Out.
D. naturally built fences of myrrh trees have been designed for preventing the attacks, and it is - 'naturally' is wrong here. As if the nature itself built the fences, but no, not the original meaning. 'It is" refers to what? I see no singular noun anywhere close by. Out
E. naturally built fences of myrrh trees are being designed to prevent the attacks, and they do - Even if we are fine with being, 'naturally' makes this option crap. "Do" refers to prevent and it is correct. But 'naturally' destroys this option. Out.
Answer is A, as per me.

The original sentence tries to use a structure that provides an unstated but assumed repetition of a word:
the natural fences have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do (prevent....).

When such a structure is used, the word that is understood to be repeated needs to be in the same form in which it already appeared in the sentence:
A: the natural fences have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do (prevent....). ....ok
B: the natural fences have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they have been(prevent....). .... WRONG.

TO +VERB vs FOR +VING.
Why the natural fences have been designed?
To prevent attacks (for showing purpose, only to+verb is right)
So C&D are eliminated.

A vs E:
Tense: the Masai have adopted the wall (action has already been been done)
So, they have done this action for a specific purpose.(Continuous tense doesn’t make sense). E eliminated.

A is my answer.

The African Maasai have adopted the Living Wall project in their bid to save their livestock from attacks by predators; the natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do.

A. natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do. Correct. Correctly presents the S-V agreement between fences and "they" and also using the correct verb tenses, "have been designed" and "they do"
B. natural fences have been built of myrrh trees, designed to prevent the attacks, and they have been. Incorrect. "they have been" is incorrect verb tense.
C. natural fences built of myrrh trees are designed for preventing the attacks, and have. Incorrect. Wrong verb tense, "are designed"
D. naturally built fences of myrrh trees have been designed for preventing the attacks, and it is - Incorrect. S-V disagreement between fences and it towards the end of the sentence
E. naturally built fences of myrrh trees are being designed to prevent the attacks, and they do. Incorrect. "Being" is almost always wrong on GMAT.

Correct Answer is A.

A. natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do
Looks good, hold.

B. natural fences have been built of myrrh trees, designed to prevent the attacks, and they have been
Sounds like the myrrh trees are by default designed to prevent the attacks and no human interference is required to design them as such.

C. natural fences built of myrrh trees are designed for preventing the attacks, and have
And they have preventing the attacks sounds wrong.

D. naturally built fences of myrrh trees have been designed for preventing the attacks, and it is
‘designed to’ is preferred over ‘designed for’ here, as the fences built prevents the attacks by itself.

E. naturally built fences of myrrh trees are being designed to prevent the attacks, and they do
It sounds like the process of designing the fences is still ongoing, yet they are preventing the attacks.

Answer A.

Stuck between A and E, I chose E since it makes more sense meaning-wise. A illogically means natural fences have been designed... designed by whom?
E Naturally built fences are designed to do XYZ. This option is right.

The correct option is A as options C,D and E change the original idea from natural fences to naturally bult fences which is incorrect apart from other mistakes.
And the usage of past-pefect tense isn't required as there are no two time-events , so option A is correct.

The African Maasai have adopted the Living Wall project in their bid to save their livestock from attacks by predators; the natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do.

Let's analyse the choice.

A. natural fences built of myrrh trees have been designed to prevent the attacks, and they do
CORRECT ANSWER. This choice uses correct tenses and terms (i.e. natural fences built of myrrh trees) and conveys the intended meaning unambiguously

B. natural fences have been built of myrrh trees, designed to prevent the attacks, and they have been
The sentence is a little awkward, but more importantly, does not use correct form of tenses: Natural fences have been built of myrrh trees, (have been) designed to prevent the attacks, and they have been (preventing the attacks??). The use of present perfect continuous tense in the last part of the sentence does not make any sense without clear time adverbs.

C. natural fences built of myrrh trees are designed for preventing the attacks, and have
The sentence conveys ambiguous meaning. One possible meaning is that "natural fences are designed ... and have", but this clearly lacks an object after the verb "have". Another possible meaning is that "natural fences..., and (they) have (prevented the attacks)." Adding the subject "they" in the second part of the sentence make the sentence much clearer.

D. naturally built fences of myrrh trees have been designed for preventing the attacks, and it is
The sentence does not use correct terms (i.e. naturally built fences of myrrh trees). If the fences were naturally built, they couldn't have been intentionally designed. The pronoun "it" does not have clear reference.

E. naturally built fences of myrrh trees are being designed to prevent the attacks, and they do
The sentence does not use correct terms (i.e. naturally built fences of myrrh trees). If the fences were naturally built, they couldn't have been intentionally designed. In addition, the sentence doesn't use sensible form of tenses. How is it possible that the fences are being designed and at the same time, they already prevent the attacks?
