When one number is discarded, then the average drops from 7.6 - 7.0 for 4 numbers. This means that discarded number is greater than 7.6

Overall drop: 0.6 * 4 = 2.4

Discarded number: 7.6 + 2.4 = 10

Theory: Arithmetic Mean is the average of the all the numbers in the set.
Arithmetic Mean = \(\frac{Sum Of All The Numbers In The Set }{ Total Number Of Numbers In The Set}\)
=> Sum Of All The Numbers In The Set = Arithmetic Mean * Total Number of Numbers In The Set

The average (arithmetic mean) of 5 numbers is 7.6
=> Sum of Numbers = Mean * 5 = 7.6 * 5 = 38

One number is discarded. Let the number discarded be x
=> Sum of remaining number = 38-x
Also, Sum = Average * 4 = 7*4 = 28
=> 38-x = 28
=> x = 38-28 = 10

So, Answer will be D
Hope it helps!
