- Total Runs after 80 one day matches with average 55: 80 * 55 = 4400
- Total Runs after 81 one day matches with average 57: 81 * 57 = 4617
- Sachin need to score in the next one day match to achieve the 57 average: 4617 - 4400 = 217

Option E

\(Total 80 Games = 80*55=4400\)
\(Total 81 Games = 81*57=4617\)

The amount required for the 81th game is \(4617-4400=217\)

Solution



Given
    • The average of Sachin after 80 one day matches is 55.
    • Sachin’s target is to increase his average to 57 after the next one day match.

To find
    • How much should Sachin score in next match.

Approach and Working out
    • 55*80 +x/81 = 57
    • 55*80 +x =57*81
    • x = 57*81 – 55*80
    • =57*(80+1) -55*80
    • =160 +57 =217

Thus, option E is the correct answer.
