C.

Strange one, though. C is the best of the lot - correct use of tenses.

What is the source of this question?

I am pretty sure it is not an official GMAT question, not even a retired one, because its OA violates one very important GMAT English concept.

GMAT English will never use the word since when its meaning in the sentence is vague. That is, because it has two different meanings, the first is because and the second is from the time, GMAT very rarely uses it in the correct answers.
Even here the meaning of the OA is not clear. Did they relax because the concert had finished , or did thay do it from the time that it had finished?

You da man! That 'since' was troubling me quite a bit, but I wasn't able to put a finger on it exactly. Perfect explanation :)

Ok usage of 'Had filtered'f is correct to show time sequence but 'Since the concert had been finished ' seems incorrect.'Since' is used for present perfect and with present perfect Has/Have can be used but not Had. Please confirm !!

The concert having been finished and the audience having filtered out, the maestro relaxed in the dressing room with the impresario.

POE:
Stop sign: 'having.....relaxed'.
Eliminate (A) & (E)- Tense error.
Eliminate (B) - 'he' is ambiguous here.
Eliminate (D) - change of meaning and tense error; not cleared which thing happened first(double past).

A) The concert having been finished and the audience having filtered out, the maestro relaxed in the dressing room with the impresario.

B) Because the maestro had finished the concert and because the audience had been filtered out, he relaxed in the dressing room with the impresario.

C) Since the concert had been finished and the audience had filtered out, the maestro relaxed in the dressing room with the impresario. - CORRECT

D) Since the concert had finished and the audience had filtered out, the maestro had relaxed in the dressing room with the impresario.

E) The concert having been finished and the audience having filtered out, the maestro had relaxed in the dressing room with the impresario.
