Official Explanation

2. Which of the following is not mentioned in the passage?

Difficulty Level: 550

Explanation

This is an easy question and needs only a careful read; only "hackers" is not mentioned in the passage.

Answer: B

3. Which of the following facts can best be inferred from the passage?

Difficulty Level: 700

Explanation

D can be inferred from the passage, which states that 'the threat is just as likely to come from within an organization' and is reinforced by the references to the dangers of mobile working. B is not inferred from the passage but explicitly stated in it.

Answer: D

PS: Answer (E) incorrectly intermingle the information and distort the picture. See what is written in the passage:

"The consequences that follow from the theft of valuable data cannot be over-estimated. Financial loss from fraud is perhaps the most obvious, but equally damaging can be the consequent loss of customer confidence."

Now read what (E) says.

E. Loss of customer confidence is potentially as damaging as financial loss through fraud.

The above text did not suggest the potential damage that the loss of customer confidence can cause.

(E) is one word-off.

Letsclatit
in Q3, can someone pls explain why D and not E?
I inferred E from here 'Financial loss from fraud is perhaps the most obvious, but equally damaging can be the consequent loss of customer confidence.'

Can we please have an explanation for the questions two and three.
Thank you!

Thanks a lot

The scope of (C) is very limited and cannot be generalized to the whole of the passage.

C. The theft of sensitive data can cause a loss of confidence as well as a financial loss.

The author has discussed many information threats that can not cause harm to the business. The passage mentioned the loss of confidence and financial losses, but it didn't limit these two. Hence, because of the limited generalizability, the choice (C) is incorrect.

Cheers

Hello Haardy7007

This is a bit of a controversial question probably. The OE states that (B) is wrong because it is explicitly mentioned in the passage but I think this is not a valid reason to strike out option (B) and in these 5 answer choices, (B) and (D) can both be the answer. I request GMATNinja to clear the air, please.
