Please comment on option A and How "E" is better than it?
Hello,
gauravmandia. I knew this question had a familiar feel to it. I wrote two responses to
a sister question that uses much of the same phrasing in the passage and, indeed, includes a few similar answer choices. Interestingly enough, in that question, the figure is $103 in answer choice (A) instead of $63, and the higher figure is used to
cast serious doubt on the claim that the Farmsley Center is a significant driver of the economic success of downtown Metropolis. But note that, in this question, $63 is less than the average $96 spent by
a person who attends a show at the Farmsley Center. The logical implication is that people, after attending a show at the Farmsley Center, are spending
more, on average,
at other downtown businesses than they would otherwise, so perhaps the center is, in fact,
a significant driver of the economic revitalization of downtown Metropolis. Answer choice (E), meanwhile, just as it does in the other question, weakens this same notion because if
most of the people who attend films or performances at the Farmsley Center do so because they are already in the area to shop, then it is the other downtown businesses, not the Farmsley Center, that are attracting people and bringing in much needed dollars.
If you read the above and take a look at the other question (and my explanations), but still have trouble understanding the question, let me know, and I would be happy to offer further guidance.
Good luck with your studies.
