Considering the upper part, length = (10-4)=6m, width = 4m
Area of the upper part=6x4 = 24m
Area of the lower part = 4x10 = 40m

Area of the L-shape = 24+40 = 64m
cost of carpeting for the entire room = 64x20 = 1280m^2

We can think of the L-shaped figure as two 10X4 rectangles with a 4X4 overlap at the corner. Thus, the area of the room is (10 x 4) + (10 x 4) - (4 x 4) = 64 square meters.

Thus, it costs 64 x 20 = \$1,280 to carpet the entire room.
