Here, the main subject is 'The Flock', which is a group. When you want to refer group in the later sentence, you must use only 'It'. So B, C, E are out. Out of A and E, E contains Past participle Flown which is not necessary.

So A is the best Answer.

guys please explain verb usage

why not "were flying"
why "as it flew" is possiple since for me there shoud be continious

Flock is a singular noun. B contains 'they' which is incorrect.
