The following line chart gives the distance covered, average speed and rest time for five different modes of transport used by Rajiv for five different journeys. Here, the average speed is calculated without considering rest time.
Which of the following combinations represents minimum travel time (without considering rest time)?
Note: Consider half-way journey of each travel mode given in every option. For example, travel time for ‘Car and Bike’ can be calculated considering half the distances which have been given for car and bike.
(A) Bicycle and Car
(B) Bicycle and Bike
(C) Car and Bike
(D) Car and Train
(E) Train and Bike
Travel time is calculated by distance divided by the average speed. In this graph that is the diamond values divided by the square values. Thus if we want a low travel time, we prefer mediums that smaller distance and greater speed in this graph.
The travel times from left to right are \(\frac{210}{60} = 3 + \frac{30}{60} = 3.5\) for car, \(\frac{195}{45} = 4 + \frac{15}{45} = 4\frac{1}{3}\) for bike, 90/20 = 4.5 for bicycle, 250/40 > 6 for van, and 300/75 = 4 for train. The lowest ones are from car and train.
