I prefer to pick B
A is obviously wrong.
In the answer C I am not able to see right reference to the pronoun 'IT' (...makes it less...) does it refer to sweetner or variety or the main subject.
I agree B seems less clear, but I feel B is more grammatically correct.
Please correct if my analysis is wrong
