I will say this though, a 680 in my experience, is actually too low if you're looking at schools like HBS and Wharton. A 720 is more the norm there, just FYI.

A 680 is indeed on the very low end for the very top schools, but quite acceptable for someone that aims to crack the top 10.

Sorry to be argumentative, but I have been an MBA admissions consultant for many years, and and each year I get clients into HBS and Wharton - but the ones who get in to those two top programs, in particular, consistently have 720's or higher. Just my personal experience working with applicants over the course of 10+ years.

My applicants with 680's though repeatedly get into all the other Top Ten schools though, so that part is still true and valid. It's HBS and Wharton in particular that, especially in the last few years, has been skewing higher.

Telling students they can get into Wharton and HBS with a 680 and be competitive is just incorrect information...again, based on my own experience.

p.s. I am a Harvard alum.

Sorry for failing to understand how you were argumentative. What point I made did you try to argue against?

You said that a 680 would get students into the Top Ten, and I said they need a higher score than that if they are looking at HBS and Wharton. I'll throw Stanford in there, too. You're just not getting in with a 680. I've never seen it happen.

You do realize that one can get into the top 10 without getting into any of those 3, right? You are arguing against a straw man.

But thanks for your helpful information. 680 is below the 10th percentile of those that enroll in these schools; it makes perfect sense that the chances for those that score 680 or lower are extremely low.

Yes, that makes no sense, my entire point is if you're considering the upper echelon of the "Top Ten" you need a higher score.

I don't think that in entire post anywhere the author mentioned that 680 is score to get in top 10. He just averaged out and clearly highlighted that people who have got in these schools have scored on both sides of average which clearly shows that although high scores are imp but not the sole factor in getting you to Ivy League b schools
